Program Timeline

SEAFLI TIMELINE: A GUIDE TO YOUR FELLOWSHIP/SCHOLARSHIP

**NOTE: THIS IS A GENERAL TIMELINE AND IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE

  • Late January: Deadline to apply for Boren Fellowship

  • Early February: Deadline to apply for Boren Scholarship

  • Mid-April: Awardee notifications sent by Boren

  • Early May: Deadline to accept or decline Boren awards (Students able to accept their award prior to the May 1 deadline are strongly encouraged to do so and to begin their visa and other program applications immediately)

  • Early May: Deadline to apply to University of Wisconsin-Madison (multi-step process)

  • Early – Mid-May: Deadline to enroll in classes

  • By mid-May: Schedule and take pre-program OPI test through Language Testing International (deadline to be provided by Boren)

  • Watch for email communications from American Councils; receive registration instructions

  • Mid – Late May: Deadline to apply to UW-Madison International Academic Programs (IAP) for spring abroad program

  • Early June: Deadline for American Councils full registration

  • Early June: Boren convocation in Washington, DC

  • Mid-June: First day of SEASSI (summer domestic classes)

  • End of first week of Summer classes: Deadline to pay summer tuition and program fees

  • Fourth week of SEASSI: End of first semester and final exams

  • Late July: SEAFLI Pre-Departure Orientation

  • Early – Mid-August: Post-summer OPIs

  • Early – Mid-August: Last day of SEASSI (summer domestic classes)

  • Mid-August: Transition break from domestic to overseas program

  • Mid – Late August: Expected Group Departure to Indonesia/ Thailand/ Vietnam

  • Mid – Late August: Expected Arrival in Malang, Indonesia/ Chiang Mai, Thailand/ Hanoi, Vietnam

  • Mid – Late August: In-Country Orientation

  • Mid – Late August: Fall courses begin

  • Early December: Post-overseas OPI testing, exams, and program evaluation

  • Early December: End of fall program / return to the United States, for fall participants only
